Upcoming Horror Flicks for the Rest of 2019

Jun 21, 2019   •   Kyzia Maramara

Now that we’ve had our fill of live-action movies like Detective Pikachu and Aladdin, it’s time for the season of horror movies to begin. Spine-tingling, creepy, nightmare fuel films are coming our way this 2019 and we can hardly wait!

Annabelle Comes Home | June 26, 2019

Via YouTube: Warner Bros. Pictures

The Conjuring universe’s infamous sinister doll Annabelle is back for the third time. Annabelle Comes Home finds demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren trying to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc. They place the possessed doll inside a ‘sacred’ glass in the artifacts room and enlists a priest’s blessing. But Annabelle awakens the room’s evil spirits who now have a new target—the couple’s 10-year-old daughter.

Midsommar | July 3, 2019

Via YouTube: A24

From the studio behind Hereditary, Lady Bird, and Ex Machina and the director of Hereditary, Ari Aster, comes another horror movie that will creep the summer and sunshine out of you. Midsommar tells the story of a couple who travels to Sweden to visit a rural hometown’s fabled mid-summer festival. Pretty soon the idyllic retreat evolves into an increasingly violent competition at the hands of a pagan cult. Don’t let the trailer and its Coachella vibes fool you! If Hereditary is something to go by, then we’re in for the creep of our lives.

Ma | July 10, 2019

Via YouTube: Universal Pictures

Octavia Spencer might be known for comedic roles, but her character in this film, the titular Ma, is nothing short of freaky. Ma invites a group of teenagers to her basement and gives them permission to use it as a venue for their parties. But pretty soon the kids realize something is definitely wrong with Ma, but is it too late to escape her?  Ma is under Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Us, Split, Glass) which is known for mainly for producing commercially successful low-budget horror films.

Crawl | July 12, 2019

Via YouTube: Paramount Pictures

A young woman (Kaya Scodelario, The Maze Runner) attempts to save her father during a Category 5 hurricane. Trapped in a flooded house, they soon discover that something more dangerous than the hurricane is lurking under the waters—alligators. From the producers of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe, Crawl is the ‘gator version for Jaws fans. Almost. Let’s cross our fingers and hope it lives up to the hype.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark | August 9, 2019

Via YouTube: CBS Films

Based on the children’s book of the same name by Alvin Schwartz, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is a horror flick directed by André Øvredal. In a mansion on the edge of town, Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.

47 Meters Down: Uncaged | August 16, 2019

Via YouTube: MovieAccess Trailers

2017’s 47 Meters Down starring Mandy Moore was a surprisingly okay movie. This summer, its sequel resurfaces (minus the original cast). A group of four teenage girls having the time of their lives discover an underwater city. They soon learn they’ve entered the territory of the deadliest shark species in the claustrophobic labyrinth of submerged caves.

It: Chapter Two | September 6, 2019

Via YouTube: Warner Bros. Pictures

Stephen King’s hit thousand-page horror book It wouldn’t have been done justice with just one film, and so we have It: Chapter Two. This film takes place 27 years after the Losers Club first encountered the evil clown Pennywise. Now that they’re all grown up, a devastating phone call brings them back and gives them a chance to end this horror once and for all.

It: Chapter Two stars Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, and Bill Skarsgard reprising his role as Pennywise.

Doctor Sleep | November 8, 2019

Via YouTube: Warner Bros. Pictures

Doctor Sleep continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.  Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.

Kyzia spends most of her time capturing the world around her through photos, paragraphs, and playlists. She is constantly on the hunt for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, and a great paperback thriller to pair with it.
