May 1, 2021   •   Meryl Medel

Running out of things to watch? Well, we’ve got a lot more coming your way because Netflix is churning out more shows and films faster than you can finish them. Probably. But when you can catch a break and sit down for a couple of hours, check out these new releases on Netflix this May 2021.

Army of the Dead

A much-anticipated film from director Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead follows the people who have been left in the aftermath of a zombie outbreak that turned Las Vegas into ruins and walled off from the rest of the world. Former zombie war hero Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) is living peacefully in a small town, but he’s drawn back into the chaos when casino boss Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada) invites him to break into the zombie-infested quarantine zone to retrieve $200 million sitting in a vault beneath the strip before the city is nuked. With a team of experts, Ward takes on the challenge and enters the zombie-infested city.

Available on May 21.

Lucifer Season 5 Part 2

Our favorite devil is back for one last time. This final season would be picking up right where the previous half of the season left off: the epic battle between Lucifer and Maze on one side and Amenadiel and Michael on the other before being stopped by God. After the darkness of the previous season, this one would be “both brighter and even darker still” and “the most emotional season” so far, according to co-showrunner Joe Henderson.

Available on May 28.

Move to Heaven

Two trauma cleaners — one a young man with Asperger syndrome (Tang Joon Sang), the other an ex-con martial artist (Lee Je Hoon) — work hard to deliver the untold stories of the departed to their loved ones. The series is inspired by a nonfiction essay entitled “The Things We Leave Behind” by Kim Shae Byeol, the first-ever Korean who made a career out of cleaning the deceased’s belongings.

Available on May 14.

Mine

Two women have married into a chaebol family. Confident and lovely Seo Hee Soo (Lee Bo Young) gave up her career as a star actress when she married the second son. Elegant, intelligent, and rational Jung Seo Hyun (Kim Seo Hyung), the daughter of another chaebol family, is married to the first son. They seem to have it all, but they’re struggling to stay true to themselves in their high society world full of prejudices.

Available on May 8.

Jupiter’s Legacy
