Held yesterday at the Sentul International Convention Center in Bogor, Indonesia, the Miss Grand International pageant just concluded its run for the year, with Brazil’s Isabella Menin bagging the crown. Our own representative Roberta Tamondong finished in the Top 20 of the pageant. She may not have snagged a placement, but Filipinos have been making noise on social media in support of the young beauty queen.

Despite her young age, Roberta Angela Santos Tamondong, or Roan as friends call her, is a pageant veteran, winning crowns in various beauty pageants: Miss Generation East 2018 Magic Circle, Mutya ng San Pablo 2019, a runner-up at Miss Teen Tourism Philippines 2019, Binibining Quezon City 2019, Miss San Beda 2020, and Miss Eco Teen Philippines 2020. She is also the first Filipino to win the title of Miss Eco Teen International in 2020.

When she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Grand International 2022, she was only 19. This month, she represented the Philippines at Miss Grand International 2022, competing against 67 other candidates and finishing in the Top 20.

Slaying on stage

Despite not making it to the placements, Pinoys have been cheering loudly for the young beauty queen after her amazing performance at the pageant. Fans point out her strong introduction, eye-catching dance performance, stunning national costume, and overall strong charisma during the finals night. While she didn’t get to answer a question, fans believe she still would’ve slayed anyway. Many were even hoping she would bag the first-ever Miss Grand International crown for the country.

To a bigger stage

Despite the unfortunately swift end of her stint at Miss Grand International, Roberta Tamondong’s fans were quick to claim that she was meant for another, bigger stage: Miss Universe. They’re hoping she joins Miss Universe Philippines in the following cycle to prepare her for one of the four major international pageants.

Even Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray thinks the young Roberta Tamondong displayed a strong performance. “She deserved so much. … I’m so proud,” she wrote in an Instagram comment.
