The reports about the live-action remake of Little Mermaid gave us so much whiplash last Tuesday. With two major US theaters tweeting about Harry Styles being confirmed to play Prince Eric, the internet went crazy. But just hours later, The Wrap reports that Harry Styles actually declined the role. And in the face of this clownery, everyone just descended into sadness. Talk about paasa. Well, the internet is quick to recover and are already putting out so many names for the role, and here are some of our favorites.

Sebastian Stan

did someone say sebastian stan as prince eric in the little mermaid? because thATS A YES FROM ME pic.twitter.com/iTJ7UNj3Hn

Bright blue eyes. Pale skin. Mischievous smiles. Sebastian Stan looks so much like the animated Prince Eric that the internet thinks he’s the living embodiment of the Disney prince.

Shawn Mendes

Okay, if Disney is planning to make Prince Eric sing, you can’t deny Shawn Mendes would be perfect for the role.

Nick Jonas

Me eyeing this tweet like, “Is Nick Jonas about to be Prince Eric?” https://t.co/qWkgIIhc7v

— Noelle Devoe (@Noelle_CD) July 3, 2019

Or maybe Nick Jonas. We love the Jonas Brothers any time of the day, and Nick going back to their Disney roots would be an amazing trip in nostalgia.

Jordan Fisher

halle bailey as princess ariel and jordan fisher as prince eric will be ICONIC to say the least. perfect casting. pic.twitter.com/NkAKStbhXp

But the internet also loves Jordan Fisher, who starred in both Rent: Live, Grease: Live and award-winning musical Hamilton. This boy can act and sing. What more can we ask for?

Timothée Chalamet

me omw to convince timothée chalamet to play prince eric since harry styles turned it down pic.twitter.com/fi439dmWyz

— kae (@WIZKAELIFA) August 14, 2019

Another fan favorite is Timothée Chalamet, whose stellar acting we witnessed in Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name. Now we’re waiting to see him as Laurie in the upcoming Little Women, but we’re certainly not opposed to seeing him as a prince. In fact, the internet is downright clamoring for it.

Park Jimin of BTS

We got a black Ariel! Can we get a Korean prince Eric? Come on Prince Jimin! pic.twitter.com/HBsqSffe4v

— (@AngieGraceLA) July 3, 2019

After actress Halle Bailey was announced as Ariel, Kpop Twitter went crazy, clamoring for an Asian Disney prince. And one of the contenders is BTS’ Park Jimin. This boy can definitely sing. And he does look like a prince, doesn’t he?

Charles Melton

Prince Eric? Hear me out.

— Sara Sorrentino (@SaraSorrentino) July 3, 2019

Riverdale star Charles Melton has a jawline so sharp it could cut. That structurally perfect face fits the bill so much people want to see him as Prince Eric.

Tessa Thompson

Calling it now: Prince Eric‘s gonna be… a woman ‍♀️
Let that blow your gd minds #TheLittleMermaid

— Michele Morrow (@michelemorrow) July 3, 2019

Tessa Thompson for Prince Eric.

— Pete Forester (@pete_forester) July 3, 2019

Who said Ariel’s love interest needed to be a man? People are waiting to see if Disney is ready to introduce a lesbian Disney princess story line. And who else better to fill the role than Tessa Thompson?

Who do you want to see as Prince Eric? Tell us below!
