Is One Person Hogging Your Bandwidth? Here’s How to Get a Dedicated Secondary Internet Connection

These days, a fast, stable internet connection is essential. While face-to-face classes and work schedules are resuming, many of us are still working from home. But the struggle can be real, especially when you’re sharing your connection with siblings who play online games while you’re in important work meetings or roommates who download K-drama episodes while you’re busy researching for an important paper. Fortunately, PLDT Home has come up with a solution: a secondary internet connection that will ensure you’re connected all the time. Here’s how you can get it:

What is PLDT Home’s MyOwnWiFi?

“PLDT Home MyOwnWiFi is the country’s first-ever service that provides a dedicated secondary internet connection,” explains Evert Chris Miranda, PLDT’s Vice President and Head of Digital Services. “This innovation allows our customers to have a twin connection with the same speed as their existing Fiber service.”

“We are offering this because we want to be consistently responsive to the needs of our customers,” says Miranda. “MyOwnWiFi will allow them to adapt better to the digital demands of essential activities involving work and school, as well as recreation.”

How does it work?

MyOwnWiFi gives you the same fast internet you’d already been enjoying in your existing PLDT Home subscription — but with additional speed through a dedicated secondary connection. What’s even better is that you can get this for as low as P649 a month.

What are the available plans?

PLDT Home customers can choose between Fiber Unli Plans and Fiber Plus Plans. While both plans give customers superior internet speeds optimized for connected homes, the latter also provides you with 2 or 3 Mesh WiFi devices that ensure seamless whole-home WiFi coverage — even for bigger homes with thick walls and multiple rooms. That means Fiber Plus customers will get a mesh device along with their MyOwnWiFi subscription as well.

How do you activate it?

MyOwnWiFi is activated instantly or within 24 hours upon a confirmed subscription. Upon activation, it is easy to connect to the LAN port 2 of your existing PLDT Home modem without the need for installers at home. Once it’s in, you can immediately use it with your personal devices upon activation.

Here’s how to install MyOwnWiFi

Anyone can set up MyOwnWiFi — it’s that easy! Upon activation of MyOwnWiFi by PLDT Home, customers can simply:

  1. Connect one end of the ethernet (LAN) cable to the existing modem’s LAN Port 2.
  2. Then, connect the other end of the ethernet (LAN) cable to the WiFi Mesh bundled to the MyOwnWiFi subscription, or directly to a device.
  3. Set up the WiFi Mesh if not yet configured.

Unlike an extender or router, MyOwnWiFi offers  additional speed that may be used for a priority connection versus the base connection shared by the family. The speed that you get from the MyOwnWiFi is identical to your base connection, making it ideal for power users, as they can enjoy the speeds of their very own bandwidth without affecting the experience of everyone else in the household.
