As striving for success is a universal objective for us as human beings, obstacles in achieving success are inevitable. If you feel you’ve hit rock bottom, drowned in utter disappointment about your life choices, then maybe you should consider the reasons why that is.
You are too much of a perfectionist
Sometimes thinking through our goals for far too long might be the hindrance itself in accomplishing things. We want to be successful and so we make sure we choose the right path and never look back. But some of us find ourselves standing at a crossroads for far too long just because we want to choose wisely.
Take a breather and take a step back for a bit. You might get a better perspective on things afterwards.
Thinking of the prize instead of the price
It’s okay to be excited about the things that come with success, but thinking about it often and getting more excited about it diverts us from the fact that it comes with a steep price. Do set your goals, but do factor in also the hard work that comes with trying to achieve them.
Opting for shortcuts
We’re all tempted to make shortcuts and we’ll often find ways to do so, but to be successful means we have to give ourselves ample time to do things right. It’s better to do it slowly, especially if doing it fast will incur plenty of unwarranted mistakes in the process.
Losing your focus
Hitting a proverbial wall in the middle of our journey towards success is quite normal, but there are times when we let setbacks overwhelm us. And in so doing, we become vulnerable and begin to doubt ourselves. Cut yourself some slack. Dust yourself off and begin again.
The wrong crowd
If you’ve been hanging out with people who choose to be complacent, it could become a problem. If you really want to achieve a high level of success, you must surround yourself with like-minded people.
Stalling and making excuses
There’s nothing wrong with stalling, but if you’re doing it too much then you won’t get anywhere. It’s easy to make an excuse in the middle of the process to stall: “It’s not the right time,” “It’s too hard,” “I don’t think I’m cut out for this.” Believe in yourself, especially when no one else does. Victory will be sweet.
Expecting too much
The prize might not be what you imagined it to be. It could be more than what you expected, or it could also be underwhelming. Remember; sometimes it’s a little better to travel than to arrive.
Letting people dictate what success means to you
Have you ever asked yourself what “success” means to you? Or has your definition of “success” been always dictated by the success of others? If it’s the latter then you’ll end up in a rabbit hole leaving you unsatisfied your whole life. Write down what you want to see happen in your life and why you want them.
