‘Clone ni Maine’: AlDub Fans Make Absurd Claims After Arjo and Maine’s Wedding

Last weekend, Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at the Alphaland Baguio Mountain Lodges Chapel surrounded by family and friends. The wedding drew a star-studded attendance, including the likes of the TVJ trio (Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon), Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, Maricel Soriano, Maja Salvador, and more. But despite many big names in the crowd, there were little to no photos and videos circulating social media due to the couple’s request to keep the event private.

However, even with the privacy request of the couple, some netizens continue to rain on their parade — namely members of the AlDub Nation.

AlDub fans’ conspiracy theories

AlDub Nation, a.k.a. the fans of the 2015 tandem of Maine Mendoza (then-known as Yaya Dub) and Alden Richards, have been known to be extremely devoted to the former love team. In fact, they even went viral last year for the event they held in celebration of AlDub’s Tamang Panahon concert anniversary, where fans lit candles and sang songs — much to the bewilderment of everyone else.

Now, after Maine and Arjo’s wedding, AlDub fans are once again coming out of the woodwork to make outrageous claims about Maine and Alden’s alleged relationship.

Claim: Maine is a “clone”

Twitter users @MCambsl2 (dubbed Aling Mila by the internet) and @twinflame233 claimed that the Maine who married Arjo in Baguio is a “clone”. The latter even compared old and new photos of Maine that allegedly prove that the “original” and the “clone” are two different people.

Claim: AlDub are married with 3 kids

So what is the “real” Maine doing, you ask? According to Aling Mila, Maine is already married to Alden and is currently taking care of their three kids. The AlDub devotee promised to stand by her claim “no matter how much bashing I get”, even thanking said bashers.

Fellow fan @babyquinto_1 even claimed to have been present in the alleged wedding of Alden and Maine, while others provided photos of the alleged engagement ring Maine received from Alden.

Claim: All the wedding photos are edited

According to another fan, the wedding photo of Arjo and Maine is allegedly a photo of Alden and Maine, with Arjo’s head just edited over it. She claims that Maine’s wedding dress was the same one she wore during her wedding with Alden.

The internet is so over it

The sentiments of other netizens have not changed since last year’s viral AlDub event — everyone’s still weirded out. Despite many people disproving their claims, the cult-like AlDub fans continue to live in their imagination where the former love team are married with three kids.

Former members of AlDub Nation are begging Aling Mila and company to stop what they described as “kabaliwan.” Twitter user @antonyostark wrote, “Please stop!!! I want to have those happy memories [of AlDub] and keep them forever.”

In the face of the AlDub fans’ creative imagination, other netizens simply made memes out of their claims.

An old photo of Maine and Alden in wedding couture also resurfaced over the weekend, with many netizens jokingly congratulating the “newly wed couple.” Posted on Maine’s official page, the photo is a still from their 2017 Kapuso series Destined to be Yours. “Ah, eto pala sinasabi ni Manang na totoong kasal,” one comment read.

The tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (then known as Yaya Dub) was an on-screen pairing started in 2015 when the two were paired up during the Eat Bulaga segment KalyeSerye. After a few years of immense success, the two ended the AlDub tandem and went their separate ways in 2018.

Both Maine and Alden, as well as people close to them, have repeatedly denied the claims of AlDub Nation fans. Still, diehard AlDub fans are unconvinced.
