8 Tips to Be a Productive Student This School Year

While we need to get on that ~grind~ for the dream degree, we can’t deny that studying is not the most fun activity in the world; but some tricks will help you make it feel less overwhelming. As classes resume, start the semester strong by applying these studying tips:

Lighting is key

Did you know that lighting affects productivity? Make sure your space gets ample lighting to avoid feeling lethargic throughout the day. It also helps avoid eye strain, especially when you choose to study indoors. While natural lighting is best, some students are more productive at night. In this case, go for cool lighting (LED lights) rather than warm and yellow lights, since it mimics daylight – you’ll be able to focus better in this lighting.

Have something to snack on while studying

One helpful way to give you motivation is by getting comfort from treats like Choco Mucho Pop Bites for a munchable snack. You’d want to dig in and finish everything all at once with its cookie center double-dipped with premium chocolate! As you munch on Pop Bites while studying, reading through 10 pages of modules feels like a breeze. It may not seem like much, but this handy snack will give you that extra comfort and motivation when studying.

Have an accountability buddy

Sure, you have your planner and favorite quotes posted on your wall to keep you on top of your tasks, but having a friend help works as well. Have an accountability buddy, preferably a classmate, to boost your motivation and receive reminders about deadlines.

Make use of streaming platforms too. It’s become a popular method for students to join and create co-working spaces online. There’s no need to talk or discuss – simply having other people do the same tasks as you are highly motivating!

Schedule your day

For some, simply listing down tasks is enough. But it helps even more when you break them down into smaller and more detailed ones. This way, you won’t get overwhelmed, procrastinate, and cram everything at the end of the day. Following a timed planner also aids in compartmentalizing your tasks and making accomplishing them easier. Don’t forget to take breathers in between studying, whether it’s an indulgent snack or an episode of your favorite show.

Take breaks

You might think that taking breaks leads to procrastination, but it can help you study smarter. Taking purposeful breaks helps refresh your mind and increase focus and productivity. Going on social media doesn’t count! Instead, go for activities that will help you feel refreshed, such as taking a short walk outside, stretching,  jumping jacks, or taking a power nap.

Another helpful way of incorporating breaks into your workflow is by applying the Pomodoro Technique: break your day into 25-minute chunks with five-minute intervals or breaks. And while you’re on a break, take the time to appreciate every crunch and the delectable taste of the Pop Bites you’ve been munching on all this time.

Dedicate a comfortable spot for studying

When trying to get school work, one indication that it is crunch time is having a change of scenery. Whether it’s a dedicated workspace at home or your favorite table at your neighborhood cafe, having a study nook will help you focus. If you’re studying at home, spruce up your spot by adding pops of color on your walls, keeping snacks at bay, and getting ample lighting. Heading out to a café? You might want to invite a friend for that ~accountability~ and munch on Choco Mucho Pop Bites together!

Get enough sleep

Sleeping may be the last thing you’ll think of when you’re beating a homework deadline, preparing for an exam for your major classes, or working on a research paper – all while juggling other responsibilities outside school. But research highlights the importance of sleep (from naps during the day and quality sleep at night) when it comes to academic performance.

Stay hydrated

Keeping yourself hydrated isn’t just for achieving that glass skin and healthy glow; it helps improve studying as well! You don’t want to face a day of reviewing dehydrated and sluggish, so get your favorite tumbler and keep it beside you.

A review on dehydration found that it might impair concentration, mathematical ability, perception, and alertness. Staying hydrated also helps keep yourself feel cool and comfortable, especially in this hot and humid Philippine weather!

As you get more tasks throughout the semester, remember that it’s totally okay to not feel motivated and productive all the time. Showing up doesn’t always mean you’re at 100%! Feeling tired is normal, but let this be a reminder that achieving your big dreams feels sweeter when you know you’ve worked hard for them. You got this!
