As cashless and online transactions have become the trend, more people have turned to mobile banking and card payments. And while debit transactions are all well and good, it’s also good to have the option of paying with a credit card.

You could end up shopping in a store that only accepts credit cards, or you could have a sudden emergency requiring you to shell out a huge amount of money. If you’re a first-time credit card applicant, you should probably get one that doesn’t have that pesky annual fee. Read on to find out which credit card with no annual fee suits you best.

 

Citi Simplicity+ Visa/Mastercard


Via Citibank

Card perks: You don’t have to pay over-limit or late payment fees. Pay at least the minimum due on or before the due date and get 10% back on interest charges.
Card eligibility: You must have an annual income of at least PHP 250,000.
Conditions: None
How you can apply: Through their branches or online

Additionally, Citibank has an ongoing promo for their other credit cards, namely until Citi Rewards Visa, Citi Rewards Mastercard, and Citi Mercury Drug. You simply need to apply on or before November 30 2022 and spend at least PHP 20,000 within 60 days from approval to enjoy no annual fee forever.

 

AUB Classic Mastercard


Via Asia United Bank

Card perks: You can choose how many times you want to pay, when you want to pay, and exactly how much to pay.
Card eligibility: You must have a minimum monthly income of PHP 21,000 and fall under one of these categories: (1) on regular employed status with a registered company for at least one year; (2) self-employed in a registered business, operating profitably for at least one year; or (3) a licensed professional practicing for at least one year.

PNB Ze-Lo Mastercard

Card perks: No need to pay late payment or overlimit fees. Enjoy a lower minimum amount due. Avail 3% rebate on fuel purchases mad at participating Caltext stations.
Card eligibility: You must be either (1) employed as a regular employee for at least one year or (2) self-employed profitably for at least two years with gross annual income must be at least PHP 120,000.

Card eligibility: You must have a minimum gross annual income of PHP 180,000.

China Bank Freedom Mastercard


Via China Bank

Card perks: Earn one Rewards Point for each PHP 20 valid spend.
Card eligibility: You must be either (1) an existing Principal Credit Cardholder with other banks and with at least 12 months activity or (2) a regular employee or self-employed individual with business operations operating legally in the Philippines for at least two years with a gross annual income of at least PHP 250,000.

EastWest Platinum Mastercard

Card perks: Earn one Platinum Rewards Point for every PHP 40 spent. Save more when shopping internationally with a low foreign currency conversion fee of 1.70%. See more on their website.
Card eligibility: You must have a minimum gross annual income of PHP 1,800,000.

HSBC Red Mastercard


Via HSBC

Card perks: Earn one bonus point for each PHP 20 spent. Avail exclusive travel deals and 6% rebate on your first Caltex fuel purchase plus 3% rebate all year round.
Card eligibility: You must have either (1) an existing locally-issued primary credit card owned for at least 12 months or (2) a minimum annual income of PHP 200,000.
Conditions: You need to apply on or before December 31, 2022. Once approved, you need to spend at least PHP 100,000 every year to get your annual fee waived. Other HSBC credit cards eligible for this waived annual fee promo are their Gold Visa Cashback (PHP 100,000 minimum annual spend) and Platinum Visa Rebate (PHP 200,000 minimum annual spend).
