The thriving OPM scene have people saying, “OPM is not dead!” or “OPM is now gaining recognition!” Truth is, OPM was never dead, we love it now as much as we did before. Only now, in the age of technology, new platforms allow music to be even more “alive”. Spotify, the biggest music streaming app in the Philippines, is one particular example.
According to data presented by music streaming giant Spotify, Filipinos spend at least two hours a day on the app and OPM is one of the most streamed genres in the country. In fact, “Love,” “OPM” and “Pinoy” are the most popular Spotify search words in the Philippines.
Thus, Spotify decided to tap some of the most streamed OPM artists today for a campaign that’s sure to make Filipino music, both past, and present, even more alive.
Introducing: Spotify Jams: OPM Love Songs. Through this, classic OPM songs will be sung by modern local artists; imagine Ben & Ben singing a Jose Mari Chan classic, or juan karlos serenading us with Ikaw Lang ang Aking Mahal by VST and Co!
All recordings will be made available on Spotify OPM’s flagship playlist, Tatak Pinoy this February.
Watch out for the release dates:
- February 8: Naaalala Ka by Moira dela Torre (originally Rey Valera) and Ikaw Ang Aking Mahal by juan karlos (originally by VST and Co.)
