You know those actors who could just as well be interchangeable with the character they’re playing? They just embody their character so well that you won’t be able to picture any other actor playing that role. In the west, the perfect example is probably Robert Downey Jr. and his Tony Stark character. And closer to home, netizens currently agree that this could apply to Korean actor Kim Seon-ho.

A recent breakout star, Kim Seon-ho is best known for his roles in Korean dramas Start-Up as Han Ji-pyeong and Hometown Cha Cha Cha as Hong Du-sik a.k.a. Chief Hong. In both roles, he played a character who is kind and thoughtful. His characters are always ready to help, whether they does it from behind the scenes or openly and directly. And netizens all agree that Kim Seon-ho embodies this characteristic well, especially when playing Chief Hong.

Early this month, one of the most powerful typhoons in years hit South Korea, causing floods and landslides in several parts of the country, including Seoul, Busan, and Pohang. Typhoon Hinnamnor left in its wake devastating scenes of destruction and led to the death of at least ten people.

In the aftermath of the typhoon, Kim Seon-ho donated ALL of the performance fees he received from the play Touching the Void to the victims of the typhoon, according to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association. With the donation, more than 1,000 typhoon victims and relief volunteers were able to receive refreshments.

“It was Kim Seon Ho’s wish to donate to the victims who lost their home due to the typhoon with the full amount of his theater performance fee,” said his agency Salt Entertainment. “We hope it will be a small help for the victims in the recovery of their daily lives.”

Why Pohang?

In case you’re not familiar, Pohang is the coastal city where the Korean drama Hometown Cha Cha Cha was actually filmed. In the show, it’s known as the fictional town Gongjin, where the dimple couple Yoon Hye-jin (Shin Min-a) and Hong Du-sik fell in love.

Real-life Chief Hong

Netizens praised Kim Seon-ho’s decision to donate all his performance fees, even claiming he’s the “real-life Chief Hong.”

This is also not the first time that the actor did this. Earlier this year, he also privately donated 50 million won (about 2 million pesos) to the Korea Childhood Leukemia Foundation.

Since his involvement in a controversy last year, the actor has been staying out of the limelight. Kim Seon-ho has since apologized for the incident and the worries it caused his fans.

The Start-Up actor only recently went back into acting, returning to his roots on the theater stage. The play Touching the Void is his first project since the controversy. In the play’s press conference, he also apologized once again for the incident: “I’m deeply sorry for bad news that has caused concerns to many people.”
