Rolling Stone is one of the countless go-to publications for anything and everything about music. They’re also known for their music listicles which rank pretty much everything — from yearly best albums and TV theme songs to dance bangers. But recently, Rolling Stone’s newest list, The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time, raised people’s eyebrows for missing numerous legendary music icons like Celine Dion.
The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time

This isn’t the first time Rolling Stone has released a listicle like this. In 2008, they published an article that ranked the 100 greatest singers of all time. But this time, the American magazine took things up a notch and decided to pay homage to the 200 greatest singers of all time selected by their staff and key contributors.
Everything seemed fine at first. The music industry’s biggest names made it on the list including Lady Gaga, Adele, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, Beyoncé, and even K-pop superstars IU and BTS’ Jungkook.

It seems that Rolling Stone sensed the uproar from a mile away because there’s somewhat of a lengthy disclaimer at the beginning of the article. The disclaimer reads:
“Before you start scrolling (and commenting), keep in mind that this is the Greatest Singers list, not the Greatest Voices List. Talent is impressive; genius is transcendent.”
The magazine also stressed that its selection process looked at the artist’s originality, influence, depth of catalog, and musical legacy. Nevertheless, many netizens thought the list was questionable since it did not include the Celine Dion and ranked Kelly Clarkson at Number 194.
