Yesterday, we saw the various 2022 presidential aspirants kick off their campaigns in various parts of the country, with some popular celebrities even joining them. One of those is Mr. Pure Energy himself — Gary Valenciano, who actually revealed that he is a first-time voter.

The singer admitted that the May 2022 elections would be the first time he is exercising his right to vote. In a video message, he addressed the audience, saying he is hoping to see and elect leaders who put themselves “in the palm of the Lord.”
A strong endorsement
He is referring to presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo and vice-presidential candidate Senator Kiko Pangilinan, whose proclamation rally he virtually attended yesterday to show his support. The singer is Pangilinan’s brother-in-law.
“Ito ang magiging first time ko to vote ever and I know I’m going to make the right vote,” he said.
Never too late
After his reveal of his voter status, netizens showered him with love and support, saying that it is “never too late” to cast your vote.

His lyrics apply
Another netizen recalled some lyrics from one of Gary V’s songs: “Take me out of the dark, my Lord, I don’t wanna be there.” They thought it fit the country’s current situation.
First time mangangampanya ni Mr. Gary V. Ibig sabihin, sobrang crucial ng 2022 election at kailangan na nyang kantahin ang…

Evangelical representation
Those who share the Gary V’s faith expressed their happiness at seeing “good evangelical representation” in this campaign period. The singer is also known for his conviction and his Christian music.
“Put yourself in the palm of the Lord and He will lift you up.” How’s that for good Evangelical representation? Gary V, pure heart and energy!

Good use of time
Another netizen, who admitted not being a fan of celebrity involvement in campaigning, said he admired the way Gary V used his time on stage to highlight the candidates instead of doing a performance. “He used his time given to him discussing who Leni and Kiko are, what they have done, and why they are the best choices,” the tweet said. “[H]e chose to rely on merits.”
I’m not a fan of celebrities endorsing candidates.
Gary V’s is an exemption. He used his time given to him discussing who Leni and Kiko are, what they have done, and why they are the best choices.
He could have sang. He could have danced. However, he chose to rely on merits. https://t.co/2fwngYM1Jm

A wake-up call
One netizen also pointed out that Gary V, who is known for his strong religious belief, openly endorsing the Leni–Kiko tandem should be “a wake-up call” for fellow Christians if they truly want to “mirror Christ-like principles.”
Gary V’s choice of VP Leni should be a wake up call to the evangelical Christians, Catholics and born again Christians to make the right decision that mirrors Christ like principles. #AngatBuhayLahat

Voter registration is already closed, but it’s still not too late to make a change
Voter registration already closed last October. It’s easy to shame and point fingers at non-voters, but it’s probably not the best way to compel them to take action. Instead, we can encourage others to register for the next elections and have eye-opening conversations with those who have registered but still haven’t made up their minds.
