Challenge Accepted: 8 Fun Ways to Do Your 2023 Ipon Challenge

Jan 9, 2023   •   Kyzia Maramara

We’re on to another year and that means a fresh start to saving money. If you failed to save last year, let your frustration go and decide to do better this year. To help you on your ipon journey, here are 8 creative and fun ways to do your ipon challenge for 2023. Pick one, decide to stick to it for 365 days, and watch your money balloon by December 31, 2023.

K-Pop Bias Ipon Challenge

@rmenrico My 1 year Insta Kpop bias post challenge is a success! 🥹 #kpop #kpopiponchallenge #hallyutalkph #iponchallenge #bts #blackpink #enhypen #theboyz #seventeen #got7official ♬ Fall In Love Alone – Sped Up Version – Stacey Ryan

Everyone knows it can get expensive to be a K-pop stan. There’s a ton of merch you’d want to cop — from physical albums and light sticks to your bias’ own clothing line or even brands they endorse. But let 2023 be the year you hold on tight to your money and save instead of splurge.

Ironically, your K-pop bias can help you do just that. Like the TikTok video above, you can plan your K-Pop Bias Ipon Challenge by allocating a certain amount for every time your bias posts on social media. It could be P100 for every Instagram story, P50 for a tweet, or P500 for a song. Be creative about it!

52-Week ipon challenge

The 52-week Ipon Challenge will never grow old. It has even given birth to variations, depending on what works for you! The classic version lets you choose increments — P5, P10, or even P20 a week — and you get to cross out each day on the chart once you’ve saved the amount. For example, on the first week, you save P20 each day; P40 each day for the second week; and so on. You can also try the Digido template which puts random amounts all over the chart so you can save P60,000 at the end of the year.

20% of your earnings

Another great way to save money is to automatically put away 20% of everything you earn. Whether that’s your main sweldo, your side hustle, or even the random P500 your parents give you from time to time. No excuses.

Stop Talking About ___ Ipon Challenge

@drjuliesmith Who else apologises more than they need to? Follow for more. #learnontiktok #tiktoktherapist #mentalhealthawareness #soover2020 #perfectlyimperfect ♬ Despicable Me (From “Despicable Me”) – Hot Contender

Things you could stop talking about could range from your crush (because you’re moving on!) to ranting about work. You could even make it into a Swear Jar! It’s hitting two birds with one stone — you get to stop talking and thinking about something toxic and you get to save money if you do. This challenge either requires honesty or, if you don’t fully trust yourself, you can ask for an accountability partner’s help.

Decide how much you want to save for 2023

@thalyn_08 DIY Alkansya. April 3,2022. Start na ng ipon challenge 😁 #wifediaries #marriedlife #wifeduties #iponchallenge2022 ♬ Celebrate the Good Times – Mason

Let’s say you want to save P100,000 by December 31, 2023, divide that into 365 days (P274)  and that’s how much you need to save per day.

Fixed amount per day

@riruescapade Been doing 50 pesos challenge for the past 2 years pero this year nawalan ng work, I thought hindi ko matutuloy yung challenge. Thank you God for the provision. May 100s pa konti. Small wins! 😍 Ipon Challenge this 2022. #iponchallenge #save #cebu #foryou #fyp #iponchallenge2022 #alkansyachallenge #alkansya2022 ♬ Celebrate the Good Times – Mason

Another simple ipon challenge is to decide on a fixed amount you’ll be saving each day. Most people go for P50 since it’s a reasonable amount. At the end of 365 days, your P50 will be P18,250. Not bad for a little bit of holiday splurging.

Stop eating out

@abigailfmarquez Replying to @marcos.cruz213 Kumakain ka ba nito? #foodporn #food #foodlovers #foodieph #foodie #filipino #filipinorecipe #yummy #foodietokph #fyp #tiktokfood #foodtok #sardines #ulam #ulamideas #recipe ♬ original sound – Amiel Sol

And purposefully save the amount you would’ve spent. For example, if you’re tempted to eat out but there’s food at home, save P500. If you’re tempted to buy another Starbucks, restrain yourself — get the instant coffee out and put P200 into your savings. You get to save your money and you get to realize how expensive it is to dine out.

The Invisible P200 bill

@tophersalvaloza My Ipon Challenge 2022 😍 Invisible 200 at 20 Peso Coin 🎉 #KatasELoading #IponChallenge2022 #iponchallenge #loadsuppliernationwide ♬ The Good Part – AJR

P200 bills are rare until you’re intentionally looking for them and then they pop out everywhere. But treat these P200 bills as if they’re invisible. In other words, grab these green bills and save them. Of course, this will only work for those who handle cash on a daily basis. For those who have gone cashless for 2023, you’ve got the seven other ipon challenges above to try!
