Kristel Fulgar Opens Up About Her Scrapped Hosting Stint During Seo In-Guk’s Fan Meeting in Manila

From her humble beginnings in Goin’ Bulilit to becoming an artist for the South Korean agency Five Stones Entertainment, Kristel Fulgar continues to make a name for herself as an artist. She’s also a big fan of K-pop and Korean dramas, so when she was unable to host Seo In-Guk’s much-anticipated fan gathering last August 12, her fans were disappointed. Here’s what went down:

Hosting engagement called off

Filipino iHeartriders were over the moon following the announcement of South Korean singer-actor Seo In-Guk’s fan meeting in Manila. Filipino actress and proud Seo In-Guk fangirl Kristel Fulgar was also tapped to host the event, much to the delight of Pinoy fans. However, on the day of the event, the 28-year-old star revealed on Instagram that she’s no longer hosting the fan event “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

In a vlog titled “What happened at the Seo In Guk Fan Meeting in Manila“, Fulgar went in-depth into what happened. The vlog shows Fulgar all giddy and excited during rehearsals, followed by a moment of devastation as she broke the bad news to her viewers.

“Andito na ‘ko 7 AM — nag-rehearse — and then eventually, sinabihan ako ng Korean technical director [from HY Official] na hindi na raw ako ang magho-host,” Fulgar revealed.

She expressed that even though hosting isn’t her forte, she accepted it as a longtime Seo In-Guk fan. Fulgar also explained she isn’t used to giving her all during rehearsals.

“So, kung nakulangan sila sa energy do’n sa rehearsal, sabi ko po, I would do my best.”

Fulgar said she wasn’t given another chance to prove herself, and she feels sorry to everyone who expected her presence on stage that day.

Despite what happened, Fulgar had the chance to meet her idol face-to-face! But perhaps the most touching part of their interaction was after Seo In-Guk shared he was aware of the event changes and moved to comfort Fulgar with a hug. Aside from taking selfies together, the 35-year-old star stated he has watched her YouTube videos! Awww!

Kristel receives an outpouring of love and support from netizens

Many Pinoys felt sorry for Fulgar and came to her defense. Some expressed she should have been given a few pointers for improvement during rehearsals if the event officials weren’t satisfied. 

Others said that the organizers were “unprofessional”, and alleged that they just used Fulgar’s name to promote the event.

On the flip side, others suggested that Fulgar should refine her hosting skills and always give her best, regardless if it’s just a run-through or a live broadcast. 

Karen Bordador speaks out

After Fular revealed that she wouldn’t be hosting the event anymore, some fans began attacking Karen Bordador, who replaced Fulgar. Addressing the negative reactions, Bordador posted a somewhat cryptic statement on X (formerly Twitter).

Based on Bordador’s post, it seems as if there’s more to the story. Though we don’t know the full circumstances behind the drama, it’s never a good look to attack people online over baseless assumptions.
