By Kyzia Maramara
Taft is a cornucopia of affordable restaurants perfect for the average budget-constrained student (See: 8 Student Budget Friendly Places to Eat at Taft Avenue). Almost everything is there: a range of coffee shops, the best fast food chains, convenience stores, and even an Angel’s Burger branch! But if you’re a Taft veteran you must be looking for something new to spend your time with. Here are 8 new places where you can eat and hangout with your friends (even if you’re just dropping by).
Everything But Cheese
What started out as a small stall in Sta. Ana that catered to the residents nearby eventually became a well-loved restaurant. Everything But Cheese has found its way in Taft and is settling here for the long run. Students are more than welcome to get acquainted (and eventually addicted) to the daringly cheesy menu. You can find affordable cheeseburgers, craft sandwiches, pasta, nachos, and cheese fondue and dips, a hearty menu that can tide you over until your next class.
Looking for a new place to hang out with your friends? Ramen Naijiro opened just in time for the rainy weather! Satisfy your ramen cravings with their affordable offers of ramen, grilled food, pasta, and other Pinoy favorites. Prices start at P120, you don’t have to look far to get a taste of affordable ramen!
Doon Thai and Asian Fusion Cuisine
Doon Thai and Asian Fusion Cuisine is a laid-back restaurant offering authentic Thai comfort food. Situated just a few minutes from the Taft avenue university area, it’s beside a laundromat so students often visit with a double agenda: fill their bellies and clean their clothes in one visit. Doon’s owner Jun Puno, brother of Rico J. Puno is proud to inform that his dishes are made with homegrown herbs and spices, a testament to the authenticity of every dish.
Mr. Don Korean Restaurant
Still on that Koreanovela and KPOP fever? Mr. Don Korean Restaurant in Sherwood has an affordable menu and even has an on-going promo where you can have unli samgyupsal and beef for as low as Php 299! Let your brains rest and feast on all that grilled pork.
Kanto Freestyle Breakfast
You don’t have to go far if you’re looking for a hearty breakfast available all day long; Kanto Freestyle Breakfast has opened their branch in Malate! Although not as spacious as the other branches, the experience will still be the same. Their affordable gourmet breakfast ranges from Pinoy classics to classic American meals.
