Made in Abyss
This standout anime is about a mysterious pit full of monsters and precious artifacts around which a bustling city has formed. In it, a young orphan follows the footsteps of her mother, a former cave diver. Together with a cyborg boy she befriends, she sets off into the abyss in search of her mother. It’s a traydor kind of anime, featuring too cute characters in gut wrenching situations.
This series is about five young girls who work as undercover spies for the Commonwealth of Albion, all while attending a prestigious private school. Don’t let the cute character designs and quaint Victorian setting fool you. This series takes a bleak look at turn of the century industrial changes and political divisions and their harsh consequences.
Welcome to the Ballroom (Ballroom e Youkoso)
After a chance encounter with Kaname Sengoku, a tough as nails dance instructor, an aimless middle school named Tatara Fujita gets plunged into the world of competitive dance. Tapping into the same sportsy zeitgeist partly responsible for the success of shows like Yuri on Ice, Welcome to the Ballroom makes the beautiful spectacle of dance even more awe inspiring.
Also known as “Compulsive Gambler,” Kakegurui is set in a bizarro campus where students gamble huge sums of money in various games of chance. Extracurricular? More like extra questionable! The star of the series is Yumeko Jabami, a transfer student with uncanny perception and a psychosexual addiction to risk.
