The Internet Has a Lot to Say About the #NEDA10kChallenge

The National Economic Development Authority recently released a sample household budget that showed Php 10,000 is enough for a family of five to live for a month. It was just a ‘hypothetical figure’ according to NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon, but the internet wasn’t happy. For the officials to produce a ‘hypothetical’ figure like that, we’re tempted to ask if they are somehow stuck in a previous decade where Php 127/person/day is enough.

Although the internet is mostly angry, the Filipino side of making things light also surfaced. Here’s what the internet has to say about the #NEDA10kChallenge.

1. Kasya naman pala eh?

Kasyang-kasya naman pala eh.

Isang buwan daw.

2. Mythical

Omigosh. Just done with an interview on national radio. Thanks, DZRH’s Deo and Karen, for letting me share my thoughts on the #NEDA10kChallenge.

The hypothetical 10K figure for a family of five is not hypothetical. It is mythical. It does not exist in the real world.@dzrhnews

— Miss Maggie (@MiaMagdalena) June 6, 2018

As in it doesn’t exist.

Di ganito na lang!..😡😡😡 pic.twitter.com/0Ynqx1fkDV

— Mang Jose🍺🚬 (@joalla117) June 7, 2018

But maybe we can make it after all. #TiisTiis

3. It’s a biggest loser challenge in disguise

Prove nyo nga kung posible tong 10k per month na to. Ano to, biggest loser ba? Weight loss challenge?

Posted by Paul Jhon Diezon on Tuesday, June 5, 2018

But seriously, Php 1,288 for house rent? San ka nakatira? Sa tent?

4. Well this made things clearer

Computation para mag kasya ang P10,000 budget kada buwan

Definitely understood what NEDA wanted to happen: lessen the population by giving everybody kidney diseases.

5. Tough times call for drastic measures

wag palipas ng gotom ha. 🆗🆒

10k monthly pala ha

10k a month Ulam challenge to par…

Posted by Roberto Bedonia on Thursday, June 7, 2018

BRB, will buy Clover and Cheese Rings for ulam.

6. 10k a month to slowly starve us, you mean?

10k a month daw para mabuhay ang isang pamilya. So pag nagkasakit 1 like 1 prayer na lang?

— Rhadson Mendoza (@matabangutak) June 6, 2018

They’re even trying to control our vices! How dare they?

Yung favorite part ko ng #NEDA10KChallenge ay yung naglaan pa sila ng P158 monthly budget para sa alak at yosi para lang hindi masabing bare bones yung budget plan nila.

Cigarettes – P93/month.
Alcohol – P65/month.

Hahahahaha that’s really funny. Tell us another one.

7. But maybe we can give this a try

Petition to have NEDA officials live on Php10,000 for one month. And yes yung tipong no free meals or travels from their office budget.

They have to survive on Php10,000 – nothing more.

— Mikee De Vega (@mkdevega) June 6, 2018

PETITION TO ADJUST NEDA OFFICIALS’ SALARY TO 10K A MONTH!!!! MAKE THEM WALK THE TALK!!! https://t.co/d1WiVi1JTT

— ɥɐᴉ∀ (@AiahBruce) June 6, 2018

Starting with the NEDA officials who proposed it! Can we also include online “influencers”? Maybe they’ll be forced to sell their bikinis to live.

8. Every man for himself!

“If the other four people die of starvation, kaya siguro.” #NEDA10kChallenge

— One Mapúa (@OneMapua) June 6, 2018

Can you see the future? Kidney disease-riddled, thin-bodied, starving individuals. Maybe that’s a bit too far but so is 10k!
