It’s 2022 and it’s time you spiced up your barkada hangouts a bit. While we aren’t opposed to the good ‘ol formula of watching a good movie at the cinema, eating dinner, and heading straight home, there are other activities we’re sure you’ll enjoy. We’ve created a quick list of fun activities you can do with your barkada this 2022. From unleashing your competitive side through bowling or tuning out the world while creating your own clay mugs. Go forth and have fun!

Roller Disco

@rollerdiscofishermall Roller Disco Quezon avenue GRAND OPENING. #rollerdisco #fishermall #fishermallqc #skate ♬ Material Girl – Madonna

3rd floor, Fisher Mall Quezon Avenue
Rates: Starts at P130 for 30 minutes

High-waist mom jeans, vinyls and gramophones, polaroids — these are just some trends millennials and Gen Z have resurrected. Falling back in love with roller skates is just the latest on that list. Take your barkada out roller skating at the new Roller Disco in Fisher Mall. It’s one of the many roller skating spots in the metro where many flock to give inline skates a test drive. You’ll be treated to disco balls, neon lights, hardwood floors, and fellow skate enthusiasts. And if your barkada happens to love the activity, you’ll be glad to know there’s a community of roller skaters more than happy to let you join them on their trips in the metro.

Rates: Starts at P699

Cooking is a great bonding moment with the barkada. You can one-up each other on your baking skills and then get to eat the cake after. Don’t have an oven in your kitchen? Newly-opened I Did It Myself Bakery in SM Megamall can fix that for you. They’ve got a wide selection of baked goods you can try your hand at making. There’s a variety of cheesecakes, chocolate cakes, desserts with fruits, cookies, and more. No baking experience is required but by the end of your session, you’ll have baked a cake from scratch. How cool is that?

Bowling

Via Facebook: SM Megamall

SM Bowling Center, 4F SM Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall
P209 per game/person | Shoe Rental: P50

There’s nothing like a competitive couple of rounds of bowling to test friendships and your dignity. Bring your barkada to the nearest bowling alley (SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, Makati Cinema Square) and throw a few balls around. Once you hit strike, euphoria and adrenaline rush ensues. This activity requires no prior experience but be prepared for losses, one can only take a number of balls in the gutter before one feels too hopeless.

Plus, there’s nothing like the bragging rights of reaching the top before the rest of your friends do. If you find that you absolutely love scaling walls, you can even sign up for Climb Central’s membership packages. Those start at P3,500 with unlimited climbs for a month up to a year. Register your climb in advance here.

Be kids for a day at the Wii Jump Trampoline a.k.a the biggest trampoline park in the country. You can knock yourself out jumping at 11 different areas, each bringing out your inner child. There’s a basketball hoops section, a foam pit area, the heart-stopping falling net, the Olympic trampoline, and more. Your barkada is guaranteed a solid hour of fun. Just remember to avoid overexerting yourself or your aging knees might not recover.

Rates: Starts at P250 /player

Got brainy friends who are down to cracking a good case? Breakout Philippines is always a great option for bonding, granted you promise not to point fingers at each other if you don’t manage to escape. Search for clues and sleuth your way out of different room themes before the time runs out. Breakout Philippines branches are currently closed due to the pandemic but they’ve since beefed up their virtual escape rooms and it’s just as rewarding and fun. This is a good way to put your inner marites and FBI agent to good use and not just for stalking your crush online.

Maybe your barkada is looking for an activity that’s more creative and chill. You can try booking a pottery class. This workshop might not be easy on the pockets but you certainly get the bang for your buck: You learn pottery and you get to take your creations home.

An adventurous barkada is guaranteed to have fun going through Masungi Georeserve’s Discovery Trail. It’s a 3-4 hour hike through the conservatory area where you’ll go through forests and rock formations and climb down rope courses. For a much more chill climb, you can check out Masungi’s Legacy Trail. It’s an immersion in the greater Masungi Geopark Project where climbers get to be part of planting restoration efforts.
