Remember over ten years ago when everyone was going gaga with kilig over that Thai high school romance film? Everyone was so in love with Mario Maurer *and* Baifern Pimchanok in Crazy Little Thing Called Love. If you’re missing seeing the actors together, make sure to mark your calendars now because they’re reuniting in a new movie on Netflix!

‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’

In case you missed the viral Thai romcom film back in 2010 to 2011, here’s a quick refresher on what it’s about. Also known as First Love, the Thai film Crazy Little Thing Called Love follows young and ordinary high school student Nam (Baifern), who falls for her popular senior Chon. She does all sorts of things to win his affection, including giving herself a physical makeover to catch his attention.

What has Baifern been up to since then?

Since 2010, Baifern has starred in several Thai films and TV shows, but none so big that it went viral across Asia like Crazy Little Thing Called Love did. But she has been doing amazingly, with several nominations and awards under her belt over the years. Baifern also appeared in the 2012 Filipino-Thai film Suddenly It’s Magic.

What about Mario Maurer?

Mario Maurer has been more active in the Philippine entertainment scene compared to Baifern. In 2012, he starred in the romantic film Suddenly It’s Magic opposite Erich Gonzales, where they played two star-crossed lovers: a Thai superstar and a Filipina baker. He has also been endorsing a lot of local brands, including TNT.

Reunited in a commercial

In 2021, the two stars gave fans kilig after they played a couple in a Thai commercial for J&T Express. Many parts of the commercial felt like references to Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which made fans feel kilig and nostalgic all at once. In the commercial, Baifern’s character is seen preparing for her shop’s opening, while Mario’s character is working on a photoshoot, which unfortunately meant he couldn’t make it to her shop’s launch. Disappointed, Baifern opens the shop the next day, but she’s surprised with a package from J&T Express. It contains a familiar journal with all her high school photos secretly taken by Mario — just like in the film! Talk about nostalgia.

Over ten years later: ‘AI Love You’

Aside from that brief commercial in 2021, Baifern and Mario didn’t star as a couple in other films or shows after Crazy Little Thing Called Love. But finally, the two will be acting opposite each other once again in an upcoming film called AI Love You!

The story

Set in a futuristic, artificial intelligence-driven world, AI Love You follows the story of a woman named Lana (Baifern). She goes on a date with a man named Bobby (Mario Maurer), who she discovers is a chauvinist and just wants to sleep with her after their date. After the unsuccessful date, Lana goes home to complain to her building’s AI named Dob, who has actually secretly fallen in love with her. But after being diagnosed as glitchy and faulty and set to be terminated soon, Dob does everything he can to take over Bobby’s body, who ironically was ordered to reset Dob’s coding.
